Sa Pa joins the list of Asia’s most popular rural destinations
Sa Pa ranks sixth among rural destinations in Asia, as more travelers look for rice terraces, mountain treks and village life.

Sa Pa has placed sixth in a ranking of Asia’s most searched rural destinations, published by a travel booking platform. The list covers towns of fewer than 50,000 people across eight Asian markets.
Searches for stays in the mountain town grew by about a fifth over the six months the ranking covers. Travelers come for the terraced rice fields, the villages of the Hmong and Dao people, and the views of Fansipan, the highest peak in Indochina.
When to go
Each season gives Sa Pa a different look. Plum and peach trees blossom in spring, young rice turns the valleys green in summer, and the terraces ripen to gold from September. On the coldest winter days, frost and even a little snow can cover the hills. June to August is the rainy season, so trails can be muddy.
“Travelers want authentic experiences away from the big cities, and Sa Pa’s landscapes and heritage give them exactly that.”
Getting there from the hostel
Limousines and VIP cabin buses leave for Sa Pa every hour and pick you up at the hostel or in the Old Quarter. The ride takes about five and a half hours. Our front desk can book your ticket and a trekking tour for the days you are there.
The ranking’s top three were Cameron Highlands in Malaysia, Khao Yai in Thailand and Puncak in Indonesia.
